Papiss Cisse: Newcastle striker's lack of confidence affecting his form

Papiss Cisse: Newcastle striker's lack of confidence affecting his form

Cisse started Saturday's defeat to Fulham in the place of the injured Loic Remy, but again struggled in front of goal.

The Senegal international, who has scored only one Premier Lague goal this term, missed two good openings at Craven Cottage, but Carver has backed the striker to come good if he keeps getting opportunities.

"At the moment, Papiss's confidence is down because he hasn't scored goals," said Carver.

"The pleasing thing is that he keeps getting in the positions to score. If he's not doing that, then we've got an issue."

Meanwhile, Newcastle youngster Adam Armstong was delighted to make his Premier League as a late substitute against Fulham.

The 17-year-old became the club's second youngest Premier League debutant and he was delighted to make his bow.

"It was a disappointing result," said Armstrong. "Obviously the lads did really well but couldn't get through at the end.

"I am absolutely buzzing to get on and make my Premier League debut."

Carver believes the young striker has a bright future ahead of him and is confident Armstrong will keep his feet on the ground.

"The thing about Adam is, he's a young lad who is level-headed," added Carver. "He won't get carried away by it.

"He will get his head down and continue to work hard.

"This is just a taste of what could happen for him. If he has a career in the game, then great."

t's wrong to be making a joke out of Bender's name at the expense of gay people. It's the kind of childish, uncivilised thing that Football365 would deride and ridicule if it was another media outlet saying. Why is there a need for jokes like this? Does it make your writers feel like men? F365 might suggest that I 'lighten up', but it is genuinely traumatic for people who have been oppressed all their lives to be the butt of jokes, and to be told...

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.
