Erik Lamela: No Bale replacement

Spurs' record signing showed his true quality on Thursday night after a great performance against FC Sheriff, scoring in a 2-1 victory which sent Andre Villas-Boas' side through to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

He could be set for his first Premier League start on Sunday at home to Newcastle and the Argentine is in defiant mood.

"The new signings came here to bring their own individual qualities to the team, it's not right to say I came here to replace Bale," he said in the Daily Mirror.

"He is who he is and I am who I am.

"I said that I would be capable of making the difference here because I believe in myself.

"The transfer fee is not a pressure, because when I went to Roma they paid quite a lot to bring me from Argentina. It is a good thing for me."

Lamela says that he has not found life in England hard and believes he is adapting to the Premier League quickly.

He said: "It's not been difficult. When I joined Roma, the first month there I didn't do all that well.

"Then, slowly but surely, it got better. You improve and in the end you feel better.

"I feel good now. Every time I play, I feel better, so it was a great experience on Thursday to play in front of all our fans and we won."
