Ravel Morrison: A "changed man", says Allardyce

Morrison has a chequered past and found himself in trouble with the police and the Football Association while at Manchester United.

But Allardyce has detected a new sense of maturity after the 20-year-old midfielder returned from a loan spell at Birmingham to enjoy an impressive pre-season campaign.

He said: "He does seem to have matured. He's obviously taken a good look at himself and decided that, if he is going to make it as a professional footballer, he needed to be more disciplined in his day-to-day life.

"His contribution in pre-season has been exciting for us. His big challenge will be when he gets his chance to play in the first team at competitive level.

"When the whistle goes on Saturday, it is 100mph from the start. He will have to learn to cope with that but he is really promising and hopefully we look forward to him continuing to develop into a player who will play a part in the first team."

till reckon Chelsea will go for Khedira as back up for Matic. I think it will turn out to be quite a Mourihno-y window: We'll see the squad players and youth in action pre-season, say things like well, we need not buy anybody and then the club will bid £60m for Pogba and send everybody on loan.

I

would love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting between Milner and Rodgers. I don't know if flies can count, but if they can then I would be counting the number of times Rodgers used the word outstanding in his attempts to get Milner to sign.

Reds and Arsenal chase Milner

W

ell, it wouldn't be a summer without Arsenal fans fretting over losing a key player, and United throwing their weight around and muscling in on transfer deals which are (apparently) near to completion. If we can't be entertained by the football on the pitch, let's enjoy the silly off-pitch soap opera of the transfer season. Hurrah!
