Mark Noble: Hoping for England chance

The 26-year-old impressed again as Sam Allardyce's men beat Southampton 3-1 at Upton Park on Saturday to record a fourth straight win which has lifted them up out of the relegation zone and into midfield.

Noble captained England Under-21s at the 2009 European Championships, where they reached the final, losing 4-0 to a Germany side which included the likes of midfielder Mesut Ozil, now with Arsenal, and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Kieran Gibbs, James Milner, Theo Walcott and Jack Rodwell have all gone on to play for the senior side, while Saints skipper Adam Lallana has been given his chance under Roy Hodgson , with defender Luke Shaw expected to get an opportunity for next month's friendly against Denmark.

Noble, though, accepts there is not much he can do other than continue to produce consistent results and wait for a phone call from the Football Association.

"I think I am playing the best football of my career right now as far as my all-round game is concerned - winning back the ball, starting us off to play," Noble said in the London Evening Standard.

"I have probably played as well as I ever have in 90 per cent of the games so far this season, but when you are losing it doesn't show.

"To be picked for my country is my ultimate goal, as it should be with any English player.

"The subject has come up a few times before and people have said when an international squad is about to be announced, 'you've definitely got a chance', but it hasn't happened.

"All I can do, though, is go out there every week and in training and try my hardest.

"Roy Hodgson hasn't spoken to me, but I will carry on enjoying what I do, working hard for the team and all being well one day I will get my chance."

Noble puts his body on the line every week. He plays like Scott Parker did for the club. He does not stop, he goes in hard to win every challenge. He is a prime example of what a West Ham player should be, hopefully he will go on to be a legend for the club like Bobby Moore. I hope he gets a shot in the England squad. He is a proud Englishmen and would do well.

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
