Robert Green: Goalkeeper wants a new contract at Queens Park Rangers

The goalkeeper joined QPR from West Ham United 12 months ago and was initially expected to be first choice at Loftus Road.

However, the subsequent arrival of Julio Cesar from Inter Milan saw Green demoted to the bench and he ended up playing in 16 Premier League games.

With Brazil international Cesar widely expected to leave QPR before the transfer window closes, Green is set to start Saturday's Championship opener against Sheffield Wednesday.

And, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, the 33-year-old wants to play a part in winning a new deal and helping QPR to secure promotion back to the top flight.

"What happened last season was completely out of my control. I did not envisage going to a new challenge at QPR and all of a sudden another chap with a real pedigree comes along," Green told The Sun.

"You have to sit there and take it on the chin.

"I went to QPR and suffered this massive disappointment. There is a sense of real unfulfilment.

"I joined, they signed Cesar and then I was told I could go. I thought, 'this is a bit weird'. The crazy world of football. But you have to keep doing your best and hopefully your character will come across.

"First of all I want to get back playing again. My contract is up at the end of the season and hopefully I will earn a new one for QPR and be playing in the Premier League."
