The controversial midfielder was sent off for the eighth time in his career towards the end of Rangers' 1-0 defeat and will now miss the Boxing Day trip to Nottingham Forest through suspension.

"Joey's been excellent for us but he doesn't need to get involved in that sort of stuff," said manager Redknapp.

"He's a fantastic player, he's great in the dressing room.

"He's apologised to the lads. I can't fault him since I've been here, he's been top class.

"He'll be a miss for sure, he's been great for us. But we've got plenty of cover in midfield so it's not an area we struggle in."
