Henderson has scored seven goals in 20 league games for the Championship surprise package this season.

The loss of the experienced target-man would be a blow to Lions boss Kenny Jackett as he eyes an unlikely top-six finish.

But Forest boss Alex McLeish is keen for the 31-year-old to bolster his striking options as the club look to push for a playoff place of their own.

The Midlands club will have to finalise the deal without the help of chief executive Mark Arthur and chief scout Keith Burt who were both sacked along with club ambassador Frank Clark on Thursday.
