Nicolas Anelka: Set for Juventus switch

The Italian champions are set to bring in the 33-year-old French striker until the end of the season from Shanghai Shenhua.

And Juventus sporting director Beppe Marotta is convinced the move makes sense as they look to add to a squad that is still chasing trophies domestically and in Europe.

"This summer we made a significant investment to try and strengthen the group but clearly at this stage we are in an emergency situation," Marotta told Sky Italia.

"As a result, it is logical to make this signing. It should be made official in the next few days.

"We have an agreement with Anelka for five months with the possibility to sign a further deal if agreeable to both parties.

"He arrives to add another option in the position where (Sebastian) Giovinco and (Mirko) Vucinic have played a lot. Then there is also (Alessandro) Matri and (Fabio) Quagliarella."

Anelka is expected to undergo a medical on Sunday with ratification of the deal from FIFA likely to be confirmed on Monday.

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
