Ashley Cole: Looking to join an elite group of international performers

The Chelsea left-back will join an elite group of international performers if he plays in a match arranged to mark the 150th anniversary of the Football Association.

Cole is joined in the squad by club team-mate Frank Lampard, deemed surplus to requirements by Chelsea yet clearly still a part of national coach Roy Hodgson's plans.

Lampard could earn his 94th cap although Hodgson has 10 midfielders to choose from including Everton's Leon Osman who retains his place in the squad after making his debut against Sweden.

Stoke-bound Jack Butland is one of only two goalkeepers included alongside first-choice Joe Hart, while striker Daniel Sturridge gets another chance following a productive start to his career at Liverpool.

And Manchester United defender Chris Smalling could make his first England appearance in 11 months after recovering from injury.

Squad: Hart, Butland, Baines, Cahill, Cole, Jagielka, Johnson, Lescott, Smalling, Walker, Carrick, Cleverley, Gerrard, Lampard, Lennon, Milner, Osman, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Wilshere, Defoe, Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck
