Andre Villas-Boas: No deal on Leandro Damiao

Andre Villas-Boas: No deal on Leandro Damiao

The Internacional player, who has won 14 caps for his country, was Spurs' main target of the January transfer window.

Villas-Boas was keen to reinforce a forward line weakened by Jermain Defoe's ongoing abdominal injury and the loss of Emmanuel Adebayor to the Africa Cup of Nations.

An offer in the region of £13m was rejected on deadline day and Villas-Boas said: "We've approached this market very sensibly.

"I've said in our conversations that if (the Damiao bid) was going to go out of proportion, we would step out of it.

"We have made it public before that he is a player that we chase, but we couldn't agree on the full conditions so we've moved on."

Villas-Boas did concede being left with two strikers is a risk, but brushed off suggestions the club should have pushed the boat out to sign Damiao.

Tottenham, who have a club partnership with Internacional, were expected to renew their interest in Damiao this summer, but Villas-Boas claims that is now unlikely.

"No I don't think (it will happen in the summer)," he said. "It's probably finished now."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
