Alan Pardew: Feels that Newcastle are still short in the striking department

The Magpies found themselves short on striking options after reluctantly agreeing to offload Demba Ba to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

They were able to bring in Yoan Gouffran from Bordeaux, but failed in their bid to wrap up a marquee signing.

Pardew feels he still needs to add a proven goalscorer to his ranks if Newcastle are avoid going backwards, and is planning to dip back into the transfer market when the window re-opens.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "When we lost out on (Loic) Remy, it was pretty evident we weren't going to get a big striker.

"They are pretty difficult to get over the line. You look around and nobody apart from Remy has really moved - maybe Danny Graham, but I don't think he's in that level.

"I think that's something we will look at in the summer.

"You always want another striker. I want Man United's position - (Robin) Van Persie, (Wayne) Rooney, (Javier) Hernandez and (Danny) Welbeck. That would be nice, but we haven't got that."
