Wayne Rooney: Handed penalty duty over to Robin van Persie

England star Rooney has missed two spot-kicks this season with Ryan Giggs taking United's last penalty in their FA Cup win over Fulham last weekend.

Rooney has revealed that Robin van Persie, who did not start against Fulham last time out, will now take over as United's first-choice penalty taker.

"To be honest it was my choice," Rooney told MUTV.

"It wasn't good enough.

"I went in to speak with the manager and said I'd spoken with Robin and told him he could take them. At a club like this, to miss two penalties like I did and not hit the target wasn't good enough."
