Massadio Haidara: Newcastle are waiting on the results of his scan

Haidara was caught by a high tackle from Callum McManaman, although the Wigan striker escaped censure from referee Mark Halsey, who appeared to be unsighted.

The FA is awaiting Halsey's official match report before deciding whether to take the matter further, while United manager Alan Pardew waits to find out how long Haidara will be on the sidelines for.

Newcastle are understood to be 'baffled' by Wigan chairman Dave Whelan's defence of McManaman, who he claims fairly challenged Haidara.

Meanwhile, Magpies full-back Mathieu Debuchy has been forced to withdraw from the France squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Spain after injuring his thigh against Wigan.

Debuchy was replaced by Haidara after just 13 minutes at the DW Stadium, before Haidara himself was forced to make way.
