The Red Devils sealed their 20th title with four games to spare courtesy of a 3-0 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Monday.

It ended City's brief ownership of the Premier League title, which they won on the final day of last season when Sergio Aguero's injury-time goal meant they finished above second-placed United on goal difference.

"It's always sweet when you win the title and it's nice to do it here, in the right way and in style, not on goal difference," said Ferdinand.

"We have won it outright and we have won it comfortably.

"It just shows the resilience and attitude the manager has instilled in us. A lot of teams would probably have fallen away.

"We played Liverpool a couple of seasons ago when they were fighting for the title, we beat them and got to the league before them and they've not been seen since.

"That shows the mentality and character that this club has."

Summer signing Robin van Persie scored all three of United's goals on Monday to take his league goal tally for the season to 24 and underline just how important his recruitment has been for Sir Alex Ferguson's side this season.

"Robin has been a big factor," said Ferdinand. "Last season, we lost on goal difference which tells you that we didn't score enough goals.

"We brought in a man who was top scorer last season and he looks like he is going to do that again this season.

"He has definitely added to what we had already."

et again Barcelona try to convince the world that they only play the most virtuous of football. I've never seen a team so willing and able to dish out lumps but feel so self-righteous that no opposition player should ever have the audacity to tackle them.

d love to see a United v Liverpool FA cup final. It would certainly fit the narrative. Obv I'd want the ending to be one of an O.G. and tears as he collects his runner-up medal.
