Joey Barton: QPR midfielder has spent the season on loan at Marseille

Barton is currently on a season-long loan at Marseille and has revealed he would be open to extending his stay with the French side.

The 30-year-old, who was banned for 12 matches and fined £75,000 for his behaviour in the defeat on the final day of last season at Manchester City, was also quick to criticise his parent club on Twitter following the Hoops' relegation on Sunday afternoon after their 0-0 draw at Reading.

However, Fernandes insists unless a transfer fee can be agreed, then Barton, signed from Newcastle on a free in August 2011, would be expected back at pre-season training ahead of their Championship campaign.

"Marseille have got to put an offer in," Fernandes told QPR Player. "Joey is under contract and Joey would be a very useful player for Queens Park Rangers.

"He helped Newcastle out (of the Championship). Some would say we lacked his fighting spirit in the midfield.

"But if Joey and Marseille want (the transfer), then we will talk. However, he is a QPR player, and is contracted to QPR.

"That has to be a financial deal which would have to be worked out if he wants to go to Marseille, but as far as I am concerned he is a QPR player and in the summer will come back."

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
