Alan Pardew: Wants to plan for the future with Mike Ashley

Pardew guided the Magpies to fifth in the top flight last term and earned an eight-year contract at St James' Park.

But results this term have been disappointing with Pardew's side sitting in 17th-place and not yet clear of relegation danger going into the penultimate game of the season against QPR on Sunday.

Pardew wants to confirm the club's status in the top flight before speaking to Ashley and planning the way forward.

He is quoted by the Chronicle as saying: "As soon as I know we're in this division, that's what I want to do with Mike.

"He can tell me where he's coming from and we can clear the air about how we want to take it forward."

But Pardew knows he could also be out of the door, despite his long contract.

He added: "He could turn around and say, 'sorry Pards, see you later and thanks very much'.

"He could do that if we don't make it, he could do that if we make it.

"Unfortunately for me I have to accept that decision."

errible night all round. This was a team there for the taking yet I fail to recall their 'keeper making a notable save. Sterling decided to have his worst game ever, Coutinho only provided about two good passes all game and Balotelli continues to frustrate. The less said about the set piece defending the better. Daniel Sturridge cannot came back soon enough. The lack of a real threat in the final third is so surprising, no killer pass, not testing...
