Poyet to assess future

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Gustavo Poyet admitted he needed to assess his future after being knocked out of the Championship play-offs by Crystal Palace.

Wilfried Zaha scored twice on the South Coast on Monday night to book Ian Holloway's side a Wembley date with Watford in the battle to reach the Premier League.

And with Brighton consigned to another season in the Championship, Poyet's future is likely to come under speculation.

The Uruguayan is under contract until 2016 but has been linked with several other clubs, including most recently Reading before Nigel Adkins was appointed.

Asked about whether he will still be at Brighton next season, Poyet told Sky Sports: "I am under contract so it is a situation I have nothing to talk about, because I am under contract.

"But I need to analyse as well my personal career."

Poyet could also not hide his disappointment at suffering defeat by Palace, who had drawn 0-0 with Brighton in the first leg at Selhurst Park.

"You have a very, very good season - better than expected," said Poyet. "You have done something very good and then, because of this play-off, you go home with a terrible feeling.

"I am really sad. That is the feeling in the dressing room."

till reckon Chelsea will go for Khedira as back up for Matic. I think it will turn out to be quite a Mourihno-y window: We'll see the squad players and youth in action pre-season, say things like well, we need not buy anybody and then the club will bid £60m for Pogba and send everybody on loan.

would love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting between Milner and Rodgers. I don't know if flies can count, but if they can then I would be counting the number of times Rodgers used the word outstanding in his attempts to get Milner to sign.

Reds and Arsenal chase Milner

ell, it wouldn't be a summer without Arsenal fans fretting over losing a key player, and United throwing their weight around and muscling in on transfer deals which are (apparently) near to completion. If we can't be entertained by the football on the pitch, let's enjoy the silly off-pitch soap opera of the transfer season. Hurrah!
