Paolo Di Canio: Looking at Inter options

Black Cats sporting director Roberto De Fanti and chief scout Valentino Angeloni are understood to have been in Italy last week and met with Inter Milan director Piero Ausilio, with Bessa, Duncan and Mbaye top of the agenda.

However, it is believed that Inter have told Sunderland that they will have to wait until later in pre-season once new coach Walter Mazzarri has assessed the players.

Mbaye's agent is Beppe Accardi and he told Sky Sports that Inter were currently not looking to let the young Senegalese defender leave, and he understood that was the case with all three players Sunderland were looking at.

"Mbaye is not available, at the moment at least," Accardi told Sky Sports.

"Sunderland want him and perhaps there could be a loan, but the coach wants to see him in pre-season and then assess things.

"I imagine it is the same with Duncan and Bessa, all three are very good players and it is clear to see why Sunderland would want them.

"We will have to see what happens later in the summer."

Mbaye, 18, is a central defender, whilst 20-year-olds Bessa and Duncan are midfielders, and Inter believe all three players have bright futures with the club.

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.

It's fair to say that the 'Moyes Out' brigade is understandably out in force, whilst there are also staunch defences of Mourinho and Arteta. Plus, Liverpool fans can almost taste it.
