Richard Dunne: QPR displays have earned him an Ireland return

The centre-half's only football of last season was a 25-minute appearance in June's friendly against Georgia.

But Dunne has turned out four times for new club QPR this term and appears over the groin injury which sidelined him for so long.

And Giovanni Trapattoni will pair Dunne with John O'Shea in his starting line-up against the Swedes, who along with Ireland and Austria, are one of three Group C teams on 11 points and chasing leaders Germany.

Dunne's inclusion is one of four changes to the side which started a goalless draw with Wales month, and Robbie Keane returns to captain the side.

David Forde replaces Keiren Westwood in goal and James McClean is back on the wing, with Wes Hoolahan, Robbie Brady and Ciaran Clark all missing out.

Republic of Ireland: Forde, Coleman, Dunne, O'Shea, Wilson, Walters, McCarthy, Whelan, McClean, Keane, Long.

Rep. Ireland v Sweden is live on Sky Sports 2HD at 7.30pm
