Didier Deschamps (L): Goal-line technology caused 'confusion'

In the 48th minute of their 3-0 win over Honduras, the GoalControl system correctly ruled that France’s second goal should be awarded, despite it initially appearing that Honduran keeper Noel Valladares had prevented the ball from crossing the line after Karim Benzema's shot had hit the post.

Replays inside the stadium showed that Benzema's initial shot had not gone in before confirming that the ball had crossed the line after hitting Valladares' hand.

Deschamps believes there needs to be more clarity to avoid further confusion in the future.

"I think it is a good solution. We were just worried that on the screen they showed an image that didn't correspond to the goal,” he said.

"It was only after the goalkeeper pushes the ball into the goal it is a goal.

"The image shown must be the one that justifies the decision of the referee."

Prior to the game, France had won just one of their last nine games in the World Cup group stages – and Deschamps admits he is relieved to get off to a winning start.

"This is a very good start. We've had good times during our preparation, but this is the competition. Winning today is a very good start,” he told French television.

"We will enjoy this victory. A 3-0 win in the World Cup is never easy. We have been patient. We had our chance and hit the bar twice in the firstperiod.

"We did well. Congratulations to the players."

terling needs to be told though that upon entering the Arsenal squad he will re-enact the final scene from Highlander where he will be thrown around a warehouse by cartoon dragons and then be a mere mortal that will only ever spend three to four weeks a season playing football and the rest on the physio's bed. There can be only one.....player available at The Emirates.

he game changed in our favour when Carrick came on. We were able to play further up the pitch due to having a player who can give and go with the ball and keep possession. Yet barkley made some runs and Townsend scored a good goal but carrick's inclusion and chiellini's withdrawal made the biggest difference to the flow of the game

o, you've not silenced anyone Andros, i'm afraid. We know you can score a great goal, and it's really handy to have your direct running and willingness to shoot on the bench. But until you can do the other things expected of a winger (beat the man, put a decent cross in, stay wide etc) then you can't expect more than a regular cameo. Wonderful goal though, what a hit! No wonder Buffon wanted the shirt.
