Steven Taylor: Fans must back us

Steven Taylor: Fans must back us

United have won just one of their last seven Premier League games, with the latest set-back coming against Swansea on Saturday.

The visitors left the North-East with three points while Newcastle's players left the field with many fans opting to boo their team off the St James' Park pitch.

But Taylor has asked for patience among the faithful, telling The Shields Gazette: "If the fans stick behind us, we will get it right.

"Hopefully, that'll start on Thursday (in the Europa League). We've got key players out injured but they're coming back.

"This is a fantastic place - the lads absolutely love playing here - and teams have got to hate playing here."

As for the match against the Swans, he added: "The gaffer told us not to beat ourselves up.

"The work ethic we had was very good but we couldn't turn our chances into goals. We just didn't take them.

"The game was a bit open. We've got to make sure this is a fortress.

"We won everything in the first half - we bossed it - and that's how it should have been throughout the game.

"We'll keep plugging away. We'll get it right - it's just a matter of time. I thought we did well but conceded two sloppy goals.

"Nothing went for us - there were shots going in left, right and centre. Hopefully, it'll kick in and we'll get back to winning ways."
