Yohan Cabaye: Newcastle midfielder undergoes surgery on groin problem

The 26-year-old France international has had an operation to repair the damage which has sidelined him since the 1-0 Premier League defeat by West Ham on 11 November.

Cabaye, who has made 13 appearances for the Magpies in all competitions this season, will be out of action for several weeks.

The former Lille player has made a big impression on Tyneside since his £4.8m arrival last summer, but was one of 11 senior players unavailable to manager Alan Pardew for Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Southampton.

Newcastle have failed to win in Cabaye's absence, losing 2-1 at home to Swansea and drawing 1-1 with Maritimo in the Europa League clash at St James' Park last week.
