AC Milan were believed to be keeping close tabs on the 22-year-old, as they were considering the future of Ignazio Abate.

Santon has had an excellent campaign for Newcastle, which has seen him recalled to the Italian national side.

And Santon says he will not be following his former Inter Milan team-mate Mario Balotelli back to Lombardy.

Santon told the Evening Chronicle: "At the moment this is the only place to play for me.

"There are not a lot of Italians in the Premier League, just Fabio Borini.

"The Premier League is better than Serie A and better than La Liga. The fans here are the best.

"Playing at Newcastle has also helped me get back into the Italy squad. My coach in Italy is happy with me and so is Mr Pardew. I will keep giving 100 per cent."

adly this is inevitable. No club outside the top 4/5 can hang on to anyone who shows that kind of talent anymore. Might be best for them to get as much as they can now while his stock is high and start again. On the plus side lads, Grant Holt is still available.
