David Platt: Saw below-par City take three points against Wigan

The champions have just six games left to bridge a 13-point deficit on Manchester United or surrender the title they won last year for the first time since 1968.

A 1-0 victory over Wigan in midweek - courtesy of several missed chances on their visitors' part and a late Carlos Tevez goal - kept Roberto Mancini's side in there fighting.

And coach Platt was left to rue City's inability to et the job done in difficult circumstances earlier in the season - most notably when a slump in form at the end of January yielded just two points from three games.

He said: "The performance against Wigan didn't surprise us in that I knew our energy levels would be low - the previous games took a lot out of us.

"It wasn't the kind of performance we have needed - but the kind of result we needed.

"You don't want too many of those performances, but when you do play like that the result becomes the important thing, and one way or another you have to get that result out of it.

"If we had done it another two or three times we would be a lot closer."

t's a bloody good goal, though. Sh!t, the kid's gonna be the worlds best before we know it, isn't he? He's got the touch of genius in him. Like Neymar, but with muscles and stuff. He's doing a Ronaldo as we watch. He's bulked up to be able to ride the tackles, but he's improved technically as well. His touch is sublime. Bugger.
