Nigel Adkins: Issued Reading rallying call

The Royals boss has been unable to spark a revival in results on the pitch, picking up just one point from his four games in charge after being appointed in March to replace Brian McDermott.

His rock-bottom side already look doomed and now have to at least win three and draw one of their remaining four Premier League games, starting against fellow strugglers QPR on Sunday, if they have any chance of surviving in the top flight.

Adkins, who has used 21 players in four games so far, told Get Reading: "We're giving all the players opportunities now (to prove themselves).

"I've been delighted with how they've been on the training ground and you can see an excellent progression on the field of play as well.

"I don't think you can deny that, but it is about winning games of football. I'm not hiding away from that situation."

Adkins insists his focus remains on picking up results, adding: "Come the end of the season, we'll know where we are (with the players).

"And like all football clubs, any negotiations regarding contracts will be done - I'd like to think privately and confidentially behind the scenes - and then we'll take it from there.

"At this moment in time our focus is on the Premier League."

he 'where does it end' argument is an absurd one and completely misses the point of the Rooney Rule, which applies to all minorities. It doesn't force any team to appoint anyone, it merely requires them to interview at least one minority candidate.
