Alan Pardew: Newcastle have enough self-belief to survive in Premier League

United suffered a humiliating 6-0 defeat against Liverpool at St James' Park on Saturday, the club's biggest home loss since 1925.

Pardew takes his side to West Ham on Saturday before they take on QPR and Arsenal in their final games of the season.

Despite their embarrassing capitulation at the weekend, when asked if he should still be Newcastle boss, Pardew said: "Yes. We have had a really, really poor month in terms of results.

"Now we have to stick together and get through it. As I've said before, words don't win games. They are not important any more.

"The performance we put in was unacceptable. It wasn't good enough for us. We are aware of that and we need to put it right."

Newcastle are five points above 18th-placed Wigan but have played a game more than Roberto Martinez's side, although Pardew is convinced they have enough spirit to avoid the drop now they all recognise the task in hand.

"Even after Benfica, a few of the players perhaps thought after that game, we would be all right," he added.

"But we have got one point from three league games, and that's not good enough for this football club.

"Now we are in a dogfight - and we have got to fight. We have got enough character and belief in that dressing room to get through it.

"We have got to show that."
