Danny Rose: Has impressed during a season-long loan at Sunderland

Rose is a contender for Sunderland's player of the year after putting in a series of impressive displays during a season-long loan at the Stadium of Light.

The 22-year-old has made 27 appearances for the Black Cats after slotting in to their first XI at left-back and opened his scoring account for the club during a 6-1 defeat at Aston Villa on Monday.

Rose says he will make a decision on his future at the end of the season and he has hinted recently that he would like to remain on Wearside.

But it is understood that Spurs boss Villas-Boas has told Rose he wants him back at White Hart Lane next term.

Left-back has been a problem area for the Portuguese this term. Villas-Boas has often played Kyle Naughton and Jan Vertonghen as makeshift left-backs as Benoit Assou-Ekotto has struggled at times to regain the consistency he has shown in previous seasons.

It now remains to be seen whether Rose, who will be on England U21 duty this summer at the European Championship, will want to come back to Spurs.

This is the fourth time Rose has been sent out on loan and he has only made eight Premier League starts for the north London club since he signed from Leeds United in 2007.

e have the personnel. The trick is keeping them fit. Carrick and Blind have missed large chunks of the season, while the defence has been one muddled mess of intermittent stooges, all coming and going at various intervals thus far. We may be just short of title winning quality, but we're half way through. An injury crisis to either of the top two could change things. Optimistic, yes, but not unrealistic.

arish is the man to blame for this shambles. Pulis must be chuckling into his left over turkey sandwich. I pray this doesn't mean the Neil Warnock media machine will kick in now and he'll be back on the telly box.

e almost found a new way to lose, just when I thought it was getting boring Giroud does that. Although Arsenal are deservedly called 'soft' the entire midfield is out injured. Still must admit MU are managing to win despite a similar raft of absentees. Think the Gunners have good players but poorly coached.
