Michael Laudrup: Looking to consolidate Swans

The Danish tactician guided the Welsh side to their first major trophy when beating Bradford City in the Capital One Cup, as well as a top half Premier League finish.

Laudrup brought in bargains like Michu last summer to achieve this success and he is well ahead with his transfer plans to keep the Swans moving forward, despite being linked with managerial vacancies such as at Everton.

He told Sky Sports News: "I wanted to stay because the club said they were going to strengthen their team. Of course we need to do that, but I'm sure they will keep their word about that.

"And then I want to stay for the fans and also for some of the players - they came for me so I can't just leave them after one season."

Regarding his summer transfer plans, Laudrup added: "We started planning a couple of months ago, so there's a lot of work to do.

"We don't have so much money compared to the rest of the teams so we have to do it like that (find bargains like Michu).

"But we'll have to strengthen our team just to try to keep where we are right now, consolidate as a mid-team, because there are a lot of teams, bigger clubs, below us who will spend big money.

"We've already seen West Ham with Andy Carroll, I think Newcastle and others will do the same so we'll have to be very good in the transfer market to compete."

t's why Mourinho is so successful. He gives players a specific, limited set of functions to perform. They are but a cog in a machine. Do no more, do no less. I assume he learnt it from LvG :)

really hope that someone in the mainstream media spots that the Bayern manager played for and managed Barcelona quite well, and thinks to mention it in the build up. That would be really interesting.
