Wayne Rooney: Overwhelmed by support on Monday

The England striker returned to the starting line-up at Old Trafford to face the team he has been linked with for most of the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old started the season-opening win at Swansea on the bench, but he was given a warm reception by the United fans on Monday evening.

He posted some pictures from the match on his Facebook page and also wrote: "Here's some pictures from Monday night's game.

"It was an unbelievable reaction from the fans, so thank you. I really appreciate your support. It means a lot."

It is believed that Rooney will not try and force through a move to Jose Mourinho's side by handing in a transfer request before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Mourinho has had two bids for the striker rejected, and after the draw at Old Trafford, he called on Rooney to make a firm decision on his future.
