Arouna Kone: Yet to find the net for Everton

Martinez returned to his former club Wigan to pay £6million for the Ivory Coast striker, who scored 13 goals last season, which was his first in England.

But, with six Everton appearances under his belt, Kone is yet to find the back of the net, and he wasted a couple of gilt-edged chances against Hull City at the weekend.

However, Martinez insists he has no worries about Kone becoming a regular scorer for Everton.

"The goals will come. You'll never see Arouna miss those chances again. He is adapting to life here after a difficult start," Martinez told the Liverpool Echo.

"The good thing about him is that he's an experienced player and he knows it's not about missing chances, it's about creating chances. Coming on in the last period of the game he had two clear-cut chances (against Hull) and his hold-up play was really good. I was pleased with his performance.

"I would rather see players get in the right positions and miss the chances than do okay and not get in the area you want a striker to be in. I was happy with his contribution.

"Scoring is a big part of a striker's game and it's important, but it's not concerning me.

"I guarantee you if he gets two chances as clear cut as he did on Saturday in every game he will do well.

"Scoring or not scoring he will always be a focal point for attacking play.

"It would be wrong for me to say a striker doesn't need goals. Every striker needs goals because they thrive on the feeling of hitting the back of the net.

"But Arouna is not a young boy. He is experienced and whatever happens he always shows for the ball and is really strong with his back to play.

"His record stands up well. He's been successful in Holland and Spain. Any introduction to a new club can be difficult at times; especially when you can't get a run of games.

"He will be important for us. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when and making sure he's ready when he's needed.

"I can see him starting to get at his best which is crucial."

ood lord that's got me unnecessarily excited. Damn you Storey. Cut to Liverpool being crushed under the wheels of Sparky's Stoke Machine and Firmino brought off the bench to no effect. It's the hope that kills you.

think he'll do quite well. My only reservation would be Kagawa, who had similar stats to Firmino in the bundesliga before he came, but time will tell.
