Malky Mackay: Delighted with his side's defensive display

Cardiff weathered the storm of numerous Norwich chances, with Leroy Fer, Gary Hooper and Anthony Pilkington all coming agonisingly close to giving the hosts the lead.

Mackay's men held out however after a man-of-the-match performance from keeper David Marshall, as well as energetic games from the likes of Kevin Theophile-Catherine and Steven Caulker in the Bluebirds defence.

"I'm delighted with the way the team defended," Mackay told Sky Sports.

Speaking of former Canaries stopper Marshall, Mackay praised his number one after he kept a clean sheet despite Norwich hammering in a total of 31 shots, with 10 on target.

"Overall he was disappointed with his performance last week, but he did what he had to do today.

"He's been magnificent for me for two-and-a-half years."

Mackay was nearly lamenting his luck for the second straight week as the game ended in bizarre circumstances however.

After Chelsea scored a contentious goal in a 4-1 defeat last time out, Norwich midfielder Fer inexplicably tapped into an empty net in the final minute of added on time after Alexander Tettey had received treatment for an injury.

"I'm not too sure that Leroy Fer actually meant to kick it in the goal," Mackay said.

"Initially I thought lightning had struck twice.

"To be fair to them, Chris (Hughton) and Colin (Calderwood) immediately said that if he gives it you walk the ball in at the other end.

"At the end of the day it's the right thing that happened."

Mackay was quick to praise his side's defensive display however, having picked up another point on their Premier League travels.

"It was a good point for us. We're playing against a team here who are at home. They have the crowd behind them.

"Five points away from home now, and I'm absolutely delighted with the way the team defended.

"Any points away from home are important. We've picked a good one up here today.

"Every one of the games are tough but we're competitive and picking up points along the way.

"I'm delighted with the group."
