The defender has struggled with a groin problem, and has not played since the final game of the 2011/12 season.

The Eagles' 30-year-old club captain sat out for the whole of his club's promotion-winning campaign, secured with a play-off final win over Watford.

But, with his side adrift at the foot of the Premier League on four points after 11 games, the possibility of having him available again will provide a welcome boost in their fight to avoid relegation.

"Paddy is ready to step up his work," said Palace's caretaker manager Keith Millen.

"We are looking at him not being too far away after the international break."
