Alan Pardew: Newcastle boss eyeing several new recruits in the summer transfer w

Pardew revealed this week he had a transfer kitty to spend and the club's new managing director Lee Charnley would be working closely with him in the pursuit of fresh faces.

Pardew is expected to strengthen up front, with Loic Remy's loan spell set to expire at the end of the season and long-serving Shola Ameobi ready to depart as a free agent, while the Magpies lost the quality of Yohan Cabaye to Paris Saint-Germain in the last transfer window.

The Newcastle boss told The Chronicle: "If there are two or three who leave this summer then we have to replace them on top of the two we want to bring in.

"There is no doubt after the loss of Cabaye we need to add quality and the Remy situation needs to be addressed because we need a player of his quality."

Pardew has welcomed Charnley's help to try and secure potential new recruits, adding: "I am pleased Lee has been appointed in that role.

"He is somebody who knows the club inside out.

"He has worked on transfers and has good experience on those and I hope we can work together in the summer to secure the players we need and we are focusing on that at the moment.

"There is absolutely no conflict in terms of where we are going. The owner has set out the criteria and we have to bring in players to take us forward. We are in a position to bring in players in the summer and hopefully push on from where we finish this season and that is likely to be eighth, ninth or 10th."

t's why Mourinho is so successful. He gives players a specific, limited set of functions to perform. They are but a cog in a machine. Do no more, do no less. I assume he learnt it from LvG :)

really hope that someone in the mainstream media spots that the Bayern manager played for and managed Barcelona quite well, and thinks to mention it in the build up. That would be really interesting.
