Roy Hodgson: England have moved on from Rio Ferdinand

Ferdinand and John Terry were the backbone of England's defence for almost a decade but Hodgson has been forced to look elsewhere following Terry's dispute with Rio's brother Anton.

Chelsea centre-half Terry retired from international football in September 2012 while Manchester United's Ferdinand has not been selected since Hodgson took charge of the national side.

Hodgson was questioned again following England's 2-1 win over Brazil this week whether Ferdinand had any chance of adding to his 81 caps but the England coach's response was a bristling as it was brief.

"We've moved on," he said. "It seems to me all I ever do is answer questions about Rio.

"I am not prepared, every time we play a game, to keep revisiting something which I have revisited at every single press conference for the last 10 months.

"For years and years England had a centre-back pairing everyone was really satisfied with, two very good players.

"For various reasons we've moved on from that. I'm pleased with the two (Chris Smalling and Gary Cahill). They did well against a top side (Brazil). Before that Phil Jagielka and Joleon Lescott have done a good job for us as well.

"I'm not going to talk about Rio. I'm not going to talk about people who aren't here when we've just beaten Brazil."

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
