Steven Gerrard: England skipper is nursing a hip complaint

Steven Gerrard: England skipper is nursing a hip complaint

Both men were in domestic action on Saturday, but neither made it through 90 minutes in a 4-0 victory over Fulham.

Gerrard made way after 67 minutes, before Sturridge followed him off the field nine minutes later.

The pair are now considered doubtful for international duty, with there little point in taking risks in a non-competitive fixture.

England skipper Gerrard has been nursing a hip complaint, while in-form frontman Sturridge has picked up a foot problem.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is not convinced that either will figure at Wembley on Friday, but will let his medical staff make a final call on their involvement.

He said: "Steven was a wee bit stiff around his hip and he needs to be assessed.

"They are going to have a look at Daniel, too. He has some soreness and actually hurt his foot against Fulham.

"I just have to see how he is with the medical guys."

Gerrard and Sturridge are not the only concerns for national boss Roy Hodgson heading into a double-header which will also see England play host to arch-rivals Germany on Tuesday.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick revealed after Sunday's 1-0 victory over Arsenal that he is struggling on the back of his first outing since shaking off an Achilles injury.

He said: "I have been carrying the injury for a few weeks now. I was a bit patched up to play today.

"I got through it but it doesn't look too good."

Carrick came through 90 minutes against the Gunners, but United colleague Daniel Welbeck sat out the contest - casting doubt over his involvement with England.

I

still can't see the Phil Jones thing that some people go on about. Whenever I watch him play it's a repeat of headless chicken meets a gurning Bambi on ice for 90 minutes.

P

robably the first list I've come across in a long time where I agree with a large majority of what was written. Can't agree with everything though, Zaba has had an awful season by his standards, I'd put Monreal (a player who I've never rated) up there, gotta give credit where it's due, he's really stepped up his game.
