Rio Ferdinand: Looking to progress with Bayer win

United travel to Germany on Wednesday knowing a win will guarantee their progression from Group A to the last 16.

And Ferdinand says United are determined to seal their passage into the next round.

"We want to finish the job, get it done early so we can get back to the Premier League and have nothing else distracting us," Ferdinand said.

"They're a well-equipped team and it's not going to be easy but we're more than capable."

United go into the clash with Leverkusen off the back of Sunday's 2-2 draw with Cardiff, and Ferdinand admits the trip to South Wales which saw them concede an injury-time equaliser, was a major disappointment.

"We set out to win and are disappointed not to do so, said Ferdinand.

"We're unhappy we didn't close the game out but, looking back at the end of the season, we may say this was a point gained rather than two lost," he said.

"[Cardiff's equaliser] was the last free-kick of the game and a silly one to give away - we didn't defend it as well as we should have. It's happened a couple of times this season and we have to put it right.

"But nothing's given out now so it doesn't matter what the table looks like, as long as we're within touching distance. We'll keep looking to pick up points, build momentum and push our way up the table."

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
