Alex Buttner: Manchester United defender hoping to play against Shakhtar Donetsk

Buttner is keen to get his chance in the final Group A game against Shakhtar following the news that defender Patrice Evra missed training on Monday.

The Dutch defender came on as a substitute for the final 20 minutes of United's 5-0 win away to Bayer Leverkusen and he is hoping to be selected by under-fire manager David Moyes as United look to top the group.

Buttner told the club's official website: "It was fantastic to qualify for the last 16 - it's good for the club, the manager, the players and the fans.

"It's a huge competition and everyone wants to win this trophy.

"Everyone was sharp and the whole team played well. We fought for every ball and played some good football.

"The confidence was really good throughout the team and we need to make sure we win the group now.

"I was pleased to get some minutes in such a big game and I hope to get some more in the next few matches," he added.

"I am training hard every day and I hope to be involved in the games coming up. I'm waiting for my chance."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
