Frank Lampard: Will see his current contract expire at the end of the season

The Blues boss has also refused to be drawn into a discussion regarding Ashley Cole's long-term future at Stamford Bridge.

Both men will see their current deals expire at the end of the season, meaning they are heading towards the free agent pool next summer.

Di Matteo would understandably like to retain the services of two established England internationals, but says he is in the dark when it comes to the prospect of fresh terms being agreed.

On Lampard, he said: "Ultimately that's between the player and the club to agree a new arrangement.

"I'm not aware how the discussions are going at the moment.

"If there's a willingness from both sides, he will remain with us.

"He's been a fantastic player for us over a decade, so it would be nice for him to finish his career here."

High level

With Lampard being linked with clubs in China and America and Cole said to be a target for Paris St Germain, Di Matteo added: "The players know that I would like them to stay.

"They are fantastic players who have always performed to a high level for us, for myself, too.

"I've told them that. I hope they will stay."

aniel Storey generally did very well, going against the City won it last year so they're bound to win it this time grain. As for John Nicholson, I wouldn't trust him to predict correctly what day of the week it will be tomorrow.
