Benitez: Positive for Torres

Rafael Benitez believes he is already seeing an improvement in Fernando Torres just days into his reign as Chelsea manager.

Torres endured another frustrating night as the Blues were held to a 0-0 draw by Fulham, the ball refusing to break in the box for the Spanish international.

But interim manager Benitez says the signs are there that the misfiring striker is on target to return to something like his best.

"We have had maybe five training sessions so far; it is too early but for me we are watching things that are positive."

The Spaniard also insists Chelsea are still capable of winning this season's Barclays Premier League despite slipping seven points adrift of top spot.

"Why can't we? It's still a long way to go. We have to keep going. We'll have chances.

"Remember, last season when City were ahead and it was 'easy'. Then they needed to win their last game. It's a long, long competition."

Benitez chose to leave fellow Spaniard Juan Mata on the bench until the 63rd minute against Fulham and explained he needed to freshen up his starting line up with the introduction of Ryan Bertrand.

"We have too many games now in a few days. We just had to use the squad."

The former Liverpool boss was again given the cold shoulder by the Stamford Bridge crowd but says he will work hard to turn things around although he does not know when he may win the dissenters over.

"It's not easy to say how long. Hopefully the game against West Ham will be better. If we play home or away we cannot control this (the crowd). We will play away and try to do our best and if we play at home we will try to do the same."
