Benitez: Torres will come good

Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez believes Fernando Torres' travails in front of goal are a reflection of the team as a whole.

Fernando Torres: His form not a concern for Benitez

The Spanish striker has found the net just once in his last 10 outings for the Blues after a positive start to the season.

But, with Chelsea having drawn a blank in their last three matches, Benitez believes Torres' problems are no worse than any of the club's other forwards.

"It's more or less the same situation with the team," said the Spaniard, who drew on the goalless draw against Fulham as an example.

"We had more possession than in any game in the season in the final third of the pitch. That means that the strikers will have more chances and Fernando is one of them.

"It is a question of creating more and more clear chances and Fernando, Oscar, (Eden) Hazard, all of them are going to score more goals."

Benitez opted to drop Juan Mata to the bench against the Cottagers, a decision that raised many eyebrows among the Stamford Bridge faithful.

But the former Liverpool boss says that with the forthcoming World Club Championship in Japan increasing an already heavy fixture list, it is more important than ever that his key players get a rest.

He said: "My idea is to use the squad. We have too many players playing almost every game and the other players did not have too many minutes.

"We will try to fix this because you cannot play two, three games in eight days and be fully fit. You lose some pace, some energy.

"Especially now that we have Japan and after Christmas the period here is so important so we will have all the players involved and we will be stronger as a team and as a squad."
