The Black Cats were due to visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday, 6 April, but the game has been moved to the following day due to Chelsea reaching the quarter-final stage of the Europa League.

Last season's European champions host Rubin Kazan in the first leg of their last-eight tie, and they have been given an extra day to prepare for the visit of Martin O'Neill's strugglers.

A statement on Sunderland's website read: "The Black Cats will now travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, April 7 for a 3pm kick-off, moving back 24 hours from the original scheduled game.

"The change comes due to Chelsea's involvement in the quarter-final of the UEFA Europa League, where they face Russian side Rubin Kazan on Thursday, April 4."

Chelsea face a daunting run of six matches in just 16 days following the international break, starting with a Premier League trip to Southampton on 30 March.

he 'where does it end' argument is an absurd one and completely misses the point of the Rooney Rule, which applies to all minorities. It doesn't force any team to appoint anyone, it merely requires them to interview at least one minority candidate.
