Rafa Benitez: Feels Chelsea have improved during his time at the helm

The Spaniard was appointed at Stamford Bridge in November on a deal which is due to run until the end of the season.

He arrived in west London with the intention of impressing Blues owner Roman Abramovich and earning a more permanent stay, but he has struggled to win over a sceptical fan base and will walk away in the summer.

The former Liverpool manager is, however, eager to remain in the Premier League and will leave himself open to offers.

Benitez said: "I have a top side now and I'd like to stay with one next season. In England? Why not?"

For all of the troubles he has endured at Chelsea, Benitez believes he has taken the club forward and hopes his efforts will have been noted by potential new employers.

He added: "A lot of the players are growing and improving all the time.

"Victor Moses, Cesar Azpilicueta, Ryan Bertrand and David Luiz, who was criticised at the beginning, have all improved.

"Juan Mata is scoring, Oscar is growing and even Fernando Torres was doing well at the beginning and getting goals, although he's not scoring now.

"Another player who is improving a lot is Frank (Lampard). He was scoring at the start if the season, but he's scoring even more now."

April fools

Meanwhile, Benitez has also hit back at former Chelsea midfielder Ray Wilkins for comments he made regarding squad rotation and an injury picked up by Ashley Cole during Monday's FA Cup quarter-final replay against Manchester United.

On the suggestion that he should look to field key men in every game, Benitez said: "I think it was 1st April when he said these things so maybe it was a joke because you can't take the comments seriously.

"I have a degree in sports science in Spain and I have spoken to many medics from different universities about injuries. It is the first time I have ever heard anything like this so, I repeat, 1st April."

ow is the time for Allardyce to finally get a chance at a big club please. He is likely to have a number of great offers for his services this summer, but who will he choose? Will it be Liverpool, Real Madrid, Dortmund or Man City?
