The former Liverpool boss has endured a fractious relationship with sections of the club's supporters since his appointment as Roberto Di Matteo's successor earlier in the season.
Benitez was unable to prevent the European champions crashing out of the UEFA Champions League at the group stage and has also seen the club exit the FA Cup and Capital One Cup at the semi-final stage.
They remain in contention for silverware in the Europa League as they face Basel in the last four and are battling to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Benitez said: "I have a contract until the end of the season and then we assume that's it.
"I have to do my job. If you are asking me how I will be remembered - professional, working hard and trying to do my best.
"People can see what I have achieved in the past. We are talking two years ago, not 20 years ago.
"If you are at a top side, everyone can see you.
"I'm managing a top side and in the circumstances we are doing a good job. We can achieve another title and finish in the top three."
