Wenger doubts deal for Mata

Arsene Wenger has admitted he 'likes' Juan Mata, but has questioned whether Chelsea would be willing to sell the playmaker to Arsenal.

Juan Mata: Chelsea playmaker has been linked with Arsenal

Mata's future has been the subject of speculation throughout the summer and he was linked with a move to Manchester United as part of Chelsea's bid to try to sign Wayne Rooney.

The Spain international's omission from the Chelsea team which drew 0-0 at Old Trafford on Monday night only served to intensify rumours he could be sold before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea's impending signing of Willian will increase competition for places, even though Jose Mourinho has insisted that Mata is not for sale.

There were reports that Juan Mata senior, the player's father and agent, was at the Emirates Stadium to watch Arsenal's UEFA Champions League tie against Fenerbahce on Tuesday night, but Wenger has suggested a deal would be a long shot.

"I like him," said Wenger, who was beaten to the former Valencia playmaker's signature by Chelsea two years' ago.

"I watched the game last night and I've heard, like you, Juan Mata could be on the market.

"There is anyway in England a reluctance to sell to each other."

Speaking after the draw against United, Mourinho had said: "He is very important for me and very important for Chelsea.

"The stories that are coming out are nonsense stories. He goes nowhere."

Fresh reports have also claimed that Tottenham Hotspur may try and swoop for Mata if Gareth Bale moves on, while Atletico Madrid have also been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has admitted he is an admirer of Mata, but has played down talk of a transfer by admitting he would probably cost too much.

Cerezo was quoted as saying in The Sun: "Mata is a good player but he's playing in the Premier League and over there they pay a lot."

his isn't directed at Van Gaal in particular, but, let's be honest, you don't have to be a tactical genius to beat Arsenal at the moment do you? I will say one thing...he put Van Persie on Monreal deliberately? Our Robin hardly had a touch did he? So did that really work? Hmmm....I'd stick to substituting Keepers (yes, yes, it was directed towards him in the end....)

hat a load of Bull***t. DiMaria hardly had a kick and they won because of a dodgy offside and a breakaway goal when Arsenal were chasing. Good luck to them they got their points but to try and claim this as some sort of tactical masterstroke is laughable, It was luck pure and simple.

he singular most disappointing aspect of the current malaise that Liverpool are experiencing is that F365 are not able to use the picture of Rodgers giving his troll smile. Brendan does a helluva good Hard Done By range though, especially in the rain, in fact he looks so forlorn you just want to say to the opposition Stop It, You're Killing Him!

Equating Rodgers To Hodgson. Oh Dear Me.

It's a Mailbox many will have been waiting. Brendan Rodgers gets a little bit of a stick, but there is at least praise for Manchester United,Van Gaal, Palace and Tottenham...

Oh Arsenal. Why Oh Why Oh Effing Why?

We have plenty of fallout from Arsenal's latest display of outrageous incompetence, plus the question of why every team seems to be getting worse. Plus, another Garcia ghost goal...
