Berahino: Chelsea no fluke

Saido Berahino insists West Bromwich Albion's draw with Chelsea in midweek was far from lucky, and hailed the resilient spirit on display at The Hawthorns.

Saido Berahino: Admits West Brom were out to disrupt Chelsea

Saido Berahino: Admits West Brom were out to disrupt Chelsea

The Baggies came from behind on Tuesday night as a late Victor Anichebe header cancelled out Branislav Ivanovic's opener as West Brom earned a 1-1 draw.

After Chelsea took the lead in first-half stoppage time, Berahino worked tirelessly as West Brom sought parity and it was the playmaker that provided the precision cross for Anichebe to level the scores.

Despite leaving it late, Berahino claims West Brom were always out to take something from the game and insists team morale is riding high, despite their position in the relegation scrap.

"We had to disrupt Chelsea's game plan and I think we did that," Berahino told the Daily Express.

"I felt we deserved the draw and the point - it wasn't a fluke.

"There is good team spirit and we're determined to stay up."

Berahino, who has eight goals in his 16 Premier League appearances, has been in and out of the West Brom side but admits seeing his side stay in the top flight is more important than personal gains.

Confident

"I understand," he said. "I just let the staff take care of that side of things and I have to make sure I'm ready when I'm needed.

"We're confident we'll stay up and we want the fans to stay behind us and keep that faith.

"I've been here since I was 11, so being part of keeping West Brom in the Premier League would be a great thing for me."

The 20-year-old left war-torn Burundi to join West Brom and revealed he is now keeping a video diary of events in the Midlands to share with his family back home.

"The filming is something I want to do from now until the end of the season for me and my family," said Berahino.

"I will put it together and send it to people back in Africa, some of my family who have never had a chance to be here with me.

"I have cousins, uncles and aunts back in Burundi. Basically, I've got a camera and I just film bits and pieces behind the scenes. Someone will edit it all down for me."
