Ramires: Determined to earn a place in the Brazil World Cup squad

The Premier League star, who came on as a second-half substitute for club team-mate Oscar in the rout of South Africa in midweek, did not receive a call-up to the national squad for Brazil's successful Confederations Cup campaign last year.

However, the tireless midfielder's club performances have forced his way back into international reckoning, featuring in six of the Samba Kings' last eight fixtures.

With the promise of a tournament on home soil, and with Brazil as early pre-tournament favourites, Ramires is determined to make coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's preliminary squad, which will be announced in May.

Ramires told 'ESPN Brasil': "Thank God I had the pleasure of participating in a positive way of a big part of our preparation for the World Cup, that makes me feel very honoured.

"We closed that stage with another win and now everyone will try to keep doing their best for their clubs until the final call up, which I hope to be part of."

The 26-year-old, who has seven international caps to his name so far, believes that the host nation is well-placed to win their first World Cup since 2002, dethroning two-times champions Spain in the process.

He added: "What is important is that Brazil's squad are united and getting stronger and stronger, and we will be at our best level to win the sixth World Cup title for our people."

think that puts all doubts over Benteke's quality to bed. Can he do it after receiving the ball to feet, in the box, totally unmarked, on a warm, sunny afternoon in Swindon? Oh yes he can! This year is definitely Liverpool's year. YNWA.

ll very well selling all midfield and strikers but unless we bring anyone in that is better than what we had then it will be a terrible transfer window in my view. Sorted out the defense but our midfield and striker options look very light.

ove it when Jose accuses others of being defensive, cynical and playing to win. If I was Wenger, I'd get that quote laminated and framed - surely the biggest compliment he's ever received from Mourinho. You've got him riled Arsene - you're relevant again!
