German-born Schlupp has been capped on one previous occasion back in 2011, but his fine form in a Championship-winning campaign with Leicester has earned him a timely recall.

Adomah also makes the grade having ended a productive 2013/14 campaign at Middlesbrough as the club's top scorer with 12 goals.

A couple of familiar faces to Chelsea supporters have also been selected by coach Akwasi Appiah, with Christian Atsu looking to prove to Jose Mourinho that he is worth drafting into the Blues' first-team plans after a season spent out on loan at Vitesse Arnhem.

Meanwhile, former Stamford Bridge favourite Michael Essien, now plying his trade in Italy with AC Milan, will be looking to make up for lost time after injury forced him to sit out the finals in South Africa four years ago.

Former Portsmouth pair Sulley Muntari and Kevin Prince-Boateng, now of AC Milan and Schalke respectively, are also included in a squad which will be trimmed to 23 following a friendly date with Holland on 31st May - as is ex-Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan.

Ghana's 26-man preliminary World Cup squad:

Goalkeepers: Stephen Adams (Aduana Stars), Fatau Dauda (Orlando Pirates), Adam Kwarasey (Stromsgodset)

Defenders: Harrison Afful (Esperance), Jerry Akaminko (Eskisehirspor), John Boye (Stade Rennes), Samuel Inkoom (Platanias), Jonathan Mensah (Evian Thonon Gaillard), Daniel Opare (Standard Liege), Jeffrey Schluup (Leicester City), Rashid Sumaila (Mamelodi Sundowns)

Midfielders: David Accam (Helsingborg), Afriyie Acquah (Parma), Albert Adomah (Middlesbrough), Emmanuel Agyemang Badu (Udinese), Kwadwo Asamoah (Juventus), Christian Atsu (Vitesse Arnhem), Andre Ayew (Olympique Marseille), Michael Essien (AC Milan), Rabiu Mohammed (Kuban Krasnodar), Sulley Muntari (AC Milan), Mubarak Wakaso (Rubin Kazan)

Forwards: Jordan Ayew (Sochaux), Kevin Prince Boateng (Schalke 04), Asamoah Gyan (Al Ain), Abdul Majeed Waris (Valenciennes).

still can't see the Phil Jones thing that some people go on about. Whenever I watch him play it's a repeat of headless chicken meets a gurning Bambi on ice for 90 minutes.

P

robably the first list I've come across in a long time where I agree with a large majority of what was written. Can't agree with everything though, Zaba has had an awful season by his standards, I'd put Monreal (a player who I've never rated) up there, gotta give credit where it's due, he's really stepped up his game.
