Joe Cole: Most promising performance under Brendan Rodgers

Cole's contribution was not enough to prevent the Swiss side leaving Anfield with a 2-2 draw which means Liverpool must win at Udinese to be sure of making the Europa League's knockout stages.

But it was by far the midfielder's most promising performance since he returned from a loan at Lille to fight for a place under Brendan Rodgers.

He said: "I was a good player at West Ham, Chelsea and Lille and I think I can be a good player at Liverpool.

"I'm getting stronger with every game. It is normal that a player wants to play all the time. It was my third game back from a hamstring problem and I felt good."

Cole's personal satisfaction was tempered by Young Boys' late equaliser, and he said: "It's disappointing. It was just the game management at the end.

"We need to see the game out. Maybe we had a few young players on the pitch but we should have killed the game of. Fair credit though it was a good finish from their kid."
