Brendan Rodgers: Luis Suarez has thrived in front of goal this season

The striker has added regular goals to his all-round play this season, scoring 25 times for a Liverpool side out of all three cup competitions and sitting eighth in the Premier League.

Suarez, who played as a lone forward before Daniel Sturridge arrived in January, is likely to make the award's shortlist but is currently third-favourite with Sky Bet behind Tottenham's Gareth Bale and Robin van Persie of Manchester United.

Rodgers said: "I couldn't look much further than Luis Suarez. He has been phenomenal - that is not just an opinion as his manager.

"If I look across the board this is a guy who had to play alone up front because he was the only striker we had for nearly six months and never missed a day's training and played every minute of every game.

"His performances have spoken for themselves. There's many great players in this league but for me he has been absolutely outstanding."

Suarez has another supporter in team-mate Lucas, who said: "I just hope he wins because I think he deserves it after everything he has done this season.

"I think it's going to be between Luis, Van Persie and Bale. All three have performed really well and have scored a lot of goals, but we hope Luis has got the luck to win it."
