Thompson expects Suarez spice

Phil Thompson says Luis Suarez will seem like a new signing for Liverpool, even though it's hard to forgive his actions.

Suarez: back in action on Wednesday

The Uruguayan striker is expected to go straight into the team for Wednesday night's Capital One Cup clash at Manchester United after completing his 10-game suspension for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic last April.

Former Liverpool captain and Soccer Saturday pundit Thompson feels his return will give Brendan Rodgers' side some impetus following their weekend defeat to Southampton, but says Suarez's indiscretions won't be forgotten quickly.

He said: "I don't think we'll ever forgive what he actually got up to with Ivanovic at the back of last season. It wasn't good, not for my football club.

"But he's still here, which is fantastic. He will be like a new signing coming in for this season.

"I'm quite sure he will be in that starting line-up at Old Trafford and I think it adds that little extra.

"Does any Manchester United v Liverpool game need any spice? Not really, but this one is extra special because of Luis Suarez."

Hurt

Manchester United go into the game on the back of Sunday's 4-1 defeat to neighbours Manchester City with David Moyes looking for a positive result to spark their season into life.

And former United defender Gary Pallister believes he will play his strongest side against Liverpool after picking up only seven points in five Premier League games so far.

"The Man City game is going to hurt, that's for sure," he told Sky Sports News.

"To lose four to your arch-rivals is hard to take so I'm sure the manager might have changed his thoughts over the last 24 hours as to what team he puts out on Wednesday night. All of a sudden I think that game becomes a little bit more important

"What a tough start to the season they've had in terms of the first five Premier League games; Chelsea at home, Liverpool away and Man City away. I've never known such a tough start to a fixture list for Manchester United since I played at the club.

"It has been difficult."

Manchester United v Liverpool is live on Wednesday on Sky Sports 2HD at 7pm

Barcelona transfer ban upheld

h Daniel. I could spend hours on this subject putting the world to rights. You can even take a step back and ask why football fans (and society in general) have this need to know that something will happen before it actually does. There are times this important, when it comes to things like war, food production and natural disasters. A man you've never met changing his job? Not so much.

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.
